Morbidelli crashes at the Sachsenring. "Severe collarbone bruise": he's hospitalized for further tests.

Morbidelli crashes at the Sachsenring. "Severe collarbone bruise": he's hospitalized for further tests.

Hours of anxiety for Franco Morbidelli, who crashed at the start of the MotoGP Sprint at the Sachsenring in Germany. The Roman VR46 Ducati rider lost control of his bike on the rain-soaked track, crashing out at Turn 8 during the third lap of the mini-race that was ultimately won by Marc Marquez, ahead of Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio Quartararo.

The 2020 MotoGP runner-up crashed on his Ducati, falling to the asphalt at high speed. The airbag in his suit deployed, likely preventing worsening consequences, as Morbidelli's inertial velocity caused him to roll across the gravel, bouncing repeatedly. The airbag deployed as his suit opened, leaving him sprawled in the gravel. Emergency services arrived immediately, but the race was not interrupted (a "positive" sign for the rider's health). Morbidelli was immediately taken to the circuit's medical center for initial checks.

The main concern is for the rider's shoulder, which is currently undergoing medical tests to determine if there are any fractures or other injuries. However, Morbidelli is conscious and in relatively good condition. Initial official communications from the team describe a "severe contusion to the left clavicle. Franky will be transferred to Chemnitz hospital for further evaluation."
